Government representatives and dignitaries have continued to commiserate with the citizens of affected communities in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government in Ogun State, over the ghastly damages caused by the heavy rainfall that happened on Sunday, 21st of April, 2024.
Amongst these government representatives are; Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan, the Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District at the 10th National Assembly, Hon. Olatunji Akinosi, the Honourable Member representing Ado Odo/Ota federal constituency at the 10th House of Representatives.
Others include Hon. Yusuf Sheriff, the Honourable Representing Ota State Constituency 1, at Ogun State House of Assembly and the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Sheriff Adewale Musa, in their respective messages described the dastardly destruction of electric poles, wires, cables and properties as a disheartening situation.
Senator Solomon Adeola through his delegation to the Palace of Olota of Ota, commiserated with the people of the Local Government over the wanton destruction of properties caused by the heavy storm on Sunday. Hon. Bankole Solomon Adebiyi (Senior Legislative Aide to the Senate President) who led the condolence team from the Senator sympathized with the victims of the storm having acknowledged the fact that the destruction was very massive based on reports made available to him.
Hon. Tunji Akinosi in his message said “The unfortunate incident not only plunged constituents into darkness but also resulted in significant damage to businesses and properties within the federal constituency. While acknowledging the absence of casualties by the grace of God, Akinosi has urged IBDEC and NEMA to swiftly intervene to restore normalcy and aid affected businesses and property owners. He also reiterated his unwavering commitment to advocating for the needs and concerns of his constituents in the legislative chamber. He also urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief materials to the affected victims and set up a NEMA office in Ado Odo/Ota Federal Constituency to assist residents. And the honourable House to mandate the Committee on Emergency and Disaster Preparedness to ensure compliance.
Also, Hon. Sherif Yusuf (Ibeman) Commiserates with the Victims of the Rainstorm and Calls for the Removal of Remaining Substandard Electric Poles. “Although, there were reports of a telecommunication mast falling on a building and blowing away of roofs. Also, no fewer than 40 communities have been plunged into darkness since the incidents and economic activities have been affected negatively.
The situation is disturbing, saddening and I deeply commiserate with the victims of these unfortunate situations.”
On his own part, Hon. Sheriff Musa, the Executive Chairman of Ado Odo Ota Local Government the visited the Ogun State Housing Corporation Estate in Ota to assess the impact of the Rainstorm that destroyed both electrical facilities and other private properties.
The Chairman who was received by representatives of the Industrialists and was briefed about the challenges facing the Industries which include bad road network within the Industrial Estate.
The leader of the Industrialists team, Mr Chris Uzoalu appreciated the Chairman for his responsiveness and show of empathy. He said the Industrialists are willing to collaborate with the Government in addressing some of their challenges.
It would be recalled that a heavy rainstorm on Sunday, 21st of April affected electrical poles and destroyed some buildings and vehicles in Ota. The Council boss had earlier on Monday visited Sango Ota to assess the situation and urged residents to steer clear of the electrical facilities while the Government will prevail on the relevant authority to fix the damaged poles.
